Medicaid is a government program that provides medical coverage for low-income people, including children and pregnant women. It also covers certain disabled adults, but not all of them. Medicaid was created to cover the cost of health care services for those who can't afford to pay on their own. As such, it's designed to fill gaps in the other programs like Medicare and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program).

Medicaid offers different benefits depending on your eligibility requirements: if you qualify as an individual with low income or disabilities; or if you are pregnant woman without financial resources; or if you are eligible family member living with someone else who has Medicaid eligibility.
