All the law says is that, in order for an insurer to be able to refuse payment of a claim, they must give reasons for that refusal. It also specifies that these reasons should be given in writing and given to you within 28 days of the day on which the decision was made. If this is not done then you are entitled to have the decision reviewed by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
