To be eligible for a Roth IRA, you must meet certain requirements. Firstly, there are income limitations that determine whether or not you can make contributions. There are also age limits that determine when you're allowed to start making contributions.

There are annual contribution limits set by the IRS. As of 2018, the maximum contribution is $5,500 per person. If you are age 50 or older, you can contribute an additional $1,000 each year.

The Roth IRA allows for catch-up contributions after age 50. You may also be able to make a non-deductible traditional IRA contribution first before making Roth IRA conversions.
